This spring, through our Portland Second Sale, the glassybaby community came together in a beautiful and meaningful way. Because of you, we are honored to share proceeds from this gathering with the Nick Wilson Charitable Group—an organization rooted in compassion, generosity, and caring for others when it matters most.
We are grateful to introduce this remarkable nonprofit to our community. The Nick Wilson Charitable Group embodies what it means to show up for families in moments of deep uncertainty, providing both emotional and financial support to children, teens, and their families undergoing cancer treatment and bone marrow transplants at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland, Oregon. By easing the everyday burdens of long hospital stays—through care kits and assistance with housing, groceries, transportation, and other essential needs—they offer not only critical support, but also a sense of comfort, dignity, and hope, allowing families to focus on their child’s healing.
This mission deeply resonates with the glassybaby community. Showing up with care in heavy and uncertain moments, meeting basic needs, and bringing light where it’s needed most is at the heart of what we believe in—and something we are proud to support alongside the Nick Wilson Charitable Group.
The organization was founded in honor of Nick Wilson—a bright, playful child who bravely battled leukemia. Today, his spirit lives on through this work, reaching other families navigating similar journeys with compassion, generosity, and understanding.

One of the most immediate ways the Nick Wilson Charitable Group supports families is through their Help Today program. Through partnerships with social workers in the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology unit at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, gift cards for groceries and gas are made available so support can reach families exactly when it’s needed.

Often, families arrive at the hospital facing urgent needs with limited resources—whether it’s filling a gas tank or putting food on the table that same day. This program offers immediate relief, meeting families in those moments with care and dignity, so they can focus on being present for their child.

The impact of this support extends far beyond a gift card or a bill paid. For families navigating a child's medical crisis, practical assistance can provide much-needed stability during an incredibly uncertain time. As one parent shared:
"Thank you for paying my rent this month. This is so difficult for families like ours to go through and support like this helps alleviate some of the stresses of everyday life. I can’t tell you how helpful that support is right now."
These acts of support help ease the weight of everyday responsibilities, allowing families to direct their energy where it is needed most—caring for their child and one another.
Another meaningful way the organization shows up is through assistance with fertility preservation and critical lab work. Many of these procedures—such as bone marrow typing or fertility preservation for young patients—are essential, yet not always covered by insurance. When these gaps arise, the Nick Wilson Charitable Group helps cover those costs, ensuring families have access to care that can shape both immediate outcomes and future possibilities.
Program Director, Melissa Crawford , shared a powerful example of this lasting impact: a young patient who received fertility preservation support during treatment years ago has since welcomed their first child into the world. It is a deeply moving, full-circle moment—one that reflects not only the care provided during a time of crisis, but the enduring hope the organization helps make possible.
We are honored to stand alongside the Nick Wilson Charitable Group and to help share their story. Their work is a reminder that even in life’s most difficult seasons, compassion has the power to carry people forward. Thank you for being part of a community that continues to show up with generosity, care, and heart.
