how we etch
Follow along as we go through the etching process.

A machine cuts your etching out of thick plastic that will resist the engraving machine.

The etching is carefully placed, then measured to make sure it is level and centered.

The glassybaby is covered by additional tape to protect it from the the engraving machine and rolled out to make sure the tape is secure.

Engraving begins, our machine uses high powered sandblasting to engrave the glassybaby.

The tape and guide are removed, and any spots are polished and cleaned.

Our in-house etching team transfers the custom keepsake votive to our web fulfillment team.

Etching FAQs
How much text can I include in my etching?
Each line is limited to 16 characters. If you choose single-line text, you'll have one line of up to 16 characters. If you choose double-line text, you'll have two lines, each with up to 16 characters. A space counts towards your character limit.
Only front etching can have double-line etching.
Limited to a heart emoji.
Where is the etching placed on my glassybaby?
Placement isn't always centered over or across the trisk (the trademark three-line mark) — it depends on where it looks best on that particular glassybaby. Because each one is hand-blown, no two are perfectly uniform, so our artisans place the etching wherever it will look cleanest and avoid warping or distortion.
Single-line etching can be positioned on either the front or the bottom of the candle holders, while double-line etching is available on the front only.
Which etching style looks best on which color?
- No fill etchings are subtle and show up best on dark-colored glassybaby.
