Your Gift is Our Strategy:

How glassybaby makes its impactful donations on your behalf

With glassybaby, the more you give, the more you give. Our job isn’t just to create the most beautiful and meaningful candleholders known to humanity, it’s also to give wisely. Every glassybaby ever born has made a donation to support non-profits that promote hope and healing for people, animals, and the planet.

Part of my job, as Director of Philanthropy, is to manage our giving strategy. I think of our work like that of an investment company that carefully manages your donation money, except instead of growing that money into more money, we use it to foster the greatest possible kindness.

To celebrate the glassybaby family donating $15.5, I want to share 3 principles that form our giving philosophy:

1) Care, Here and Now

There are hundreds of millions, and even billions of dollars spent on cancer research, around the world. But the people who are already undergoing cancer treatment often lack what they need: financial help with groceries or bus fare, a place to stay during their treatment, and support for their families and pets. It’s hard to heal, without hope; and it’s hard to hope without help. So when we give a little help where it’s needed most right here and right now, a whole lot of healing happens.

 2) Personal Connections

Our best non-profit partners are the ones we get to know on a personal level. The B+ Foundation leadership have become our good friends. And I had a chance to meet the people who run the Tsavo Trust onsite in Kenya, to see how they have eradicated elephant poaching in their region. The best venture capitalists invest in people and their teams, not just ideas. We do the same, with our giving.

3) High-Impact Storytelling

They say it’s easier to run big companies than small ones, and the same goes for non-profits. Oftentimes, small non-profit staff are stretched thin, too busy getting their work done to tell their whole story or compile statistics. That’s why we’ve been sending our own storytelling team to meet with these non-profits and see their impact firsthand. Doing this allows us to work with tiny non-profits that often use donation money most efficiently, since they don’t have high overhead costs and a huge team of administrators.

Every day, I wake up excited to help glassybaby grow, so that we can help you, the glassybaby family, give more and more kindness.

Congratulations on surpassing this important milestone.
$16 million, here we come!
